Agastache Aurantiaca ‘Coronado’ – (Hummingbird Mint)
Agastache Coronado is an excellent selection of Hummingbird Mint with silver-green foliage and spikes of orange-red flowers. This Agastache plant has a very vertical habit and blooms beginning in mid-summer continuing through into late autumn.
This plant is an outstanding hybrid. It has long 30 -40 cm spikes of showy dark orange flowers which gradually mature to scarlet. It has a very upright, narrow growth habit with stiff stems and mint scented gray-green foliage. It is drought tolerant and has a very long season of bloom. It is a very good cut flower.
When : Sow indoors (early spring) or outdoors during late spring or summer depending on the temperatures
Where : Sow the seeds onto moist seed compost in pots or trays.
Care : Press the seeds lightly into the soil but do not cover. Light is needed for germination. Propagate at about 18-20°C. Germination takes 30-90 days. Water only from the base and once germination begins ensure that the tray has a free flowing air supply however don’t let the seeds get too dry. Once seedlings are large enough to handle transplant to 8cm pots. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed.
