Description
This is a mix of saucer-shaped double blossoms of many colors. Included are chestnut-brown, chamois, pink, purple, red, salmon pink,violet,yellow, white. A popular self-sowing, biennial that has been long associated with cottage gardens The origin of these flowers is unsure , but they probably come from along the silk road from Turkey to Asia.
Sowing advice
Sow in spring, early summer, late summer and autumn
Sow directly where they are to grow or in pots or trays
Cover with about 2mm layer of soil. Keep moist and do not let the seeds dry out once planted. They will usually germinate in 2 to 3 weeks at 20°C. If planted in trays, prick out each seedling as it becomes large enough to handle, transplant into 7.5cm pots or trays. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for 10 to 15 days before planting out after all risk of frost.
