This strain of aquilegia has very large flowers which have lovely combinations of white, pink, blue, yellow, pink, pale-blue, purple and scarlet, with clear coloured outer petals, and cream/white coloured inner petals. It will grow well in shady areas and will grow to about 75 cm tall. It blooms every year reliably, and makes a great show with its lovely , long spurred bi-coloured flowers and makes a good cut flower. It makes an excellent container plant.
Sowing advice
Sow in spring and autumn. Sow seed on the surface of lightly firmed, seed raising mix in pots or trays. Cover seed with a very light sprinkle of mix as light helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged. Germination should occur within 2 to 3 weeks. When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm pots or trays. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for 10 to 15 days before planting out after all risk of frost, 30cm apart.
