Astrantia ‘Rose Symphony’ picture thanks to https://www.jelitto.com
Astrantia ‘Rose Symphony’ has strong stems bearing bright claret red , shading purple and pink coloured bracts. The bracts appear to have almost a metallic quality to them and seem to glow in the sunlight. It makes a wonderful and unusual cut flower which lasts well in the vase.
The plant flowers in late spring to summer, and is a good cut flower ,which also dries well. This plant does best in dappled shade in rich moist soil where it needs to be kept moist and will not do well in dry soil.

Sowing advice
Plant the seeds in a pot or tray and cover the seeds to their own depth with moist sterilised seed raising mix. Seal the pot in a plastic bag, and keep at 18-22 deg C for 4 weeks. After this, move to -4 to +4 deg C (fridge door) for 6 weeks. Inspect them for germination every week, and keep moist. If germination occurs, carefully lift out the seed and pot up at 5 – 12 deg C, covering lightly with seed raising mix. Put the remaining ungerminated seeds back in the fridge. After 6 weeks, take out of the fridge and move the remaining ungerminated seeds to 5-12 deg C for germination. Germination can take many months, so dont throw the seeds out prematurely! Once they have germinated move them to a warm place. Transplant the seedlings once they are large enough to handle to 8cm pots, and grow them on at 7°C. Acclimatise them for 10-15 days and plant out.. You can also sow them into pots in late autumn and leave them outside over winter for spring germination.
