Calceolaria cana is a perennial plant from Chile which has broad grey-green leaves which form rosettes about 13 cm across .  From these  rosettes arise  dainty pouch-like flowers ,which are  purple-pink on the outside with white inner aprons with purple spots over them . It likes rich moist soil in full sun. This calceolaria grows to about 25 cm wide and 50cm high. It  has very charming sprays of airy lavender and white flowers making  an extraordinarily different plant. It can be used in containers  where it makes a striking and unusual specimen, or in the garden.

Sowing advice for Calceolaria

Sow indoors in August to October in trays or pots. Sow the seeds indoors onto the surface of  moist seed raising mix which has been patted smooth, in pots or small trays.  Do not cover as they need light to germinate.  Keep them moist by watering from the bottom of the tray, or by using a spray bottle to mist the seeds, as this will stop the seeds from being covered by soil. They like a warm moist position . Ideal temperature is 20 deg C.
