This plant likes damp soil and grows well alongside streams and in boggy areas, but will also grow in soil which retains some moisture.
It has a long history of use as a medicinal plant stretching back to the druids in Britain and beyond that time.
It is mostly grown for its very attractive lime green foliage which fades to gold in the summer sun. However the flowers are also very delicate and graceful , and almost frothy in appearance , and are sweetly scented . Some gardeners remove the flowers so that the foliage will remain luxuriant. The plant will grow in full sun or dappled shade.
