Description
This is a lovely plant for adding airiness to the garden , as the delicate branches with their white to pale pink flowers sway in the slightest breeze and the bees absolutely love its flowers. It flowers for almost forever, well at least 5 months which is pretty good value. It flowers in the first year after sowing from seed about 4 months after germination, and is also a good cut flower. It is not too fussy where it will grow so long as the soil is well drained and it can tolerate some drought. For its many virtues it was awarded the RHS award of merit.
Sowing advice
Sow spring to midsummer and in autumn.Sow the seeds on the surface of moist seed compost in pots or trays. Cover with a very light sprinkling of soil only , as light is needed for germination. Keep in a warm place, ideally at 15 to 20°C. Keep moist but do not waterlog. Germination should take between 14 to 21 days. Transplant each seedling once it has its first set of true leaves into 7.5cm pots, until large enough to plant outside. Plant out in well-drained soil in full sun and light lean soil.
