Description
Hovea acutifolia is a handsome shrub which grows to about 1.5 m. It has very attractive purple pea shaped flowers on long racemes in late winter and spring . It likes a well drained soil in sun or partial shade, and is tolerant to light frosts . It grows readily from seed.
Sowing advice
Soak the seeds for 12 hours in hot water which has just boiled previously. After this drain the seeds and sow in pots or trays onto moist seed raising mix. Cover with a thin layer of mix. Ideal temp 18-22 deg C. Plant out seedlings to separate pots when they are large enough to handle , and when they are about 20cm high and the temperatures outside are about 20 deg C, plant them out .
