Ipomoea quamoclit is an annual climber which has bright red star shaped flowers above beautiful fine fern-like leaves. It flowers through summer and right into autumn until the first frosts. It is attractive to beneficial insects . It is a fast and vigorous grower , so can be used for hiding unsightly objects.

Sowing advice for Ipomoea
Sow in spring in pots or trays. Notch the seeds with nail scissors. Be careful not to cut the inner seed. Soak the seeds for 24 hours in water. Plant immediately after soaking. Sow in cell pots as they don’t like their roots disturbed when transplanting . Cover with soil to 4 cm deep. Keep the soil well-watered but not soggy. Germination will occur usually in approx. 14 days at 20C . Support is needed when transplanting as they are a climber.
