This tall basil was raised for use as a cut flower . It has aromatic leaves, with hints of liquorice and mint, and can be used as foliage or as a cut flower for its brilliant purple flowers. It has attractive purple stems and glossy two toned plum and purple leaves which have purple veins. Its sweet spicy leaves can also be used as a traditional basil in cooking. If you are using it as a cut flower , harvest when the flowers have begun to form and the stems become stiff. Cut in the cool of the evening to prevent the stems from wilting.
Sowing advice
Sow seeds in late spring after all danger of frost is past, or indoors 6 weeks before the last frost is expected, onto moist seed raising mix in pots or trays. Don’t cover the seeds as light is required for germination. Keep moist and at 22 deg.C.
