This is a very handsome evening primrose whose cup shaped flowers open tangerine and change through rose pink shades as it ages during the day. It makes a great border plant , which is bushy and has strong upstanding flower stems. It can be grown as an annual in colder areas. It should not be grown in soil which is too rich , as it prefers soil which is lean. It can tolerate some drought and likes a sunny position. It flowers in the first year from seed, about 3 months after germination.
Sowing advice
Sow in late winter-spring under cover. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed raising mix. Just cover seed with a sprinkling of soil. Cover with glass or pastic to maintain humidity. Ideal temp. 10-15°C. Germination takes 2-3 weeks approx. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed.
