Description

Papaver  ‘Coral Reef’ has large double silken crepe-paper like flowers of a soft salmon pink, with a dark purple eye .  Some gardeners consider it  to be the most spectacular of the Oriental poppies. It flowers each year in the early summer. The plant  likes cool winters and summers , and will perform best in the colder areas of New Zealand, where it will produce long stemmed flowers in abundance.  However , it will also grow in the northern warmer areas, but the flowers will be produced on much shorter stems, and the plant may be somewhat shorter lived .

Sowing advice

Sow these seeds  at any time. Plant them  in cell pots or trays in moist well drained seed raising mix, or direct where they are to grow. Sow onto the surface of cell pots or trays. Press into soil, but do not cover with soil as light is required for germination. Keep at 20 deg. C. They  should germinate in 2-3 weeks. The plant  resents root disturbance. To  make transplanting easier sow small amounts of seeds  in cell pots.  Plant the seedlings out to cell pots  as soon as they are large enough to handle .  Be careful not to disturb roots too much when pricking out seedlings from trays..
