This plant produces flowers which have black cones above green sepals. The petals which appear on other rudbeckia are almost entirely absent. The black cones are very good for cut flowers , lasting well in water and provide a handsome accent for floral work. It makes an excellent container plant.
Sowing advice
Sow indoors late winter and spring and outdoors in spring
Sow in trays or pots or direct.Sow seed onto moist well-drained seed mix. Just cover with a very fine layer of seed mix. Propagate 18-20°C. Keep soil moist but not wet. Germination takes 10-15 days. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots. Grow on in cooler conditions. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed with 45cm spacing
