This plant has wonderful deep purple blue flowers on a compact plant which reaches about 50cm tall. It can be used as a front of border plant to good effect, and is also a very good cut flower. It makes an excellent container plant. It blooms in the first year from seed and if you plant the seeds under cover in spring, then they will bloom in summer for you.. If you cut back the spent flowers from summer, it will rebloom for you in autumn.
Sowing advice
Can be sown at any time but if you sow them between May and November, they will flower for you in the summer. Sow in trays or pots . Cover with only a sprinkling of soil as light is needed for germination. Watch out for damping off. Ideal temp. 16-20°C. Seeds will germinate in about 14-30 days. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots. Increase pot size as the plant grows. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed with 15-30cm spacing.
