This plant has velvet textured grey leaves, which everyone wants to touch. It forms a thick matt of striking coloured grey ground cover , which grows in full sun. It can also withstand soil which is lean. The flowers are purple , but not particularly prized, it is the leaves which no-one can resist. We sometimes have plants of these seeds. Sowing advice for Stachys byzantina
Sow in autumn, winter, spring and early summer, onto the surface of a moist seed raising mix, and cover very lightly with mix or press the seeds into the mix a little, as light is needed for germination. Water from the bottom of the pot or use a mist sprayer to avoid driving the seeds too deeply into the mix. Keep at about 20 deg C . Seeds should germinate in about 15-30 days
