Zinnia Gigantica Golden Yellow picture thanks to https://www.hazzardsgreenhouse.com

Zinnia  ‘Gigantica Golden Yellow’ has very large 13 cm double golden yellow flowers.  It makes an excellent cut flower and performs well in the garden too.  Plant it in groups to make a lovely focus of bright colour amongst other plants.

You can grow Zinnias very easily  from seed.  They need warm temperatures, so plant them  when the soil warms up in approx October

Sowing advice

Sow zinnia (they like a sunny, sheltered position and don’t like to be moved) from the end of October to the end of November when the soil is warming up.  You can sow them direct where they are to grow or in pots or trays , however we prefer to sow them in the pots or trays because we lose alot of seedlings to slugs and snails outdoors.

Direct sowing : Sow  the seeds 3mm deep in drills,  30cm apart into well prepared soil that has been raked to a fine tilth. Follow this by watering them regularly. Germination takes 7-14 days, and  when they are  large enough to handle, thin them to 25cm spacing.
In pots or trays  : Sow the seeds Sep-Oct into moist seed raising    mix in pots and trays, at temp. 15-25°C.  When they are  large enough to handle transplant them to cell pots , and grow on in cooler conditions. After they are ready to plant out , acclimatise them for  10-15 days and plant them out after danger of frost has passed.
